Position Overview


The Environmental Justice Program Manager leads community engagement, communications, and local implementation for Nuestra Casa’s Participatory Budgeting (PB) Project.


This role ensures that farmworkers, immigrant families, and other community members most impacted by climate change are informed, engaged, and actively participating in shaping how public resources are invested.


The Manager plays a key role in advancing environmental justice by making the PB process accessible, culturally relevant, and truly community-driven.


Key Responsibilities


Community Outreach & Engagement



Implement outreach strategies across Sunnyside, Grandview, Granger, Mabton, Toppenish, Zillah, and surrounding communities
Conduct outreach
Build and maintain relationships with community partners and trusted leaders
Recruit participants for:
Adult and Youth Steering Committees
Budget Committee
Community events and voting

Communications & Messaging



Implement bilingual (Spanish/English) communications strategies
Develop and distribute culturally relevant, accessible materials, including:
Flyers and printed materials
Social media content
WhatsApp messaging
Event invitations and reminders
Present climate and participatory budgeting concepts into clear, community-friendly messaging

Event Coordination & Logistics



Plan and coordinate logistics for all PB-related events, including:
Community assemblies
Idea collection sessions
Proposal development meetings
Voting events
Final community celebration
Ensure events are welcoming, organized, and culturally responsive

Data Tracking & Reporting



Track outreach and participation data
Maintain sign-in sheets and engagement records
Support reporting requirements in collaboration with project leadership

Internal Collaboration



Work closely with the Participatory Budgeting Project Manager and Nuestra Casa team
Participate in regular planning meetings and check-ins
Ensure alignment with project timeline and goals

QualificationsRequired



Bilingual in Spanish and English
Strong connection to the Lower Yakima Valley community
Experience in community outreach, organizing, or engagement
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred



Experience working with immigrant and/or farmworker communities
Familiarity with environmental justice, climate issues, or civic engagement
Experience with social media and basic design tools
Experience coordinating events or community activities

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
