Job Description

The University of South Carolina Columbia seeks a Director, Energy Plant to guide the development of the physical environment for educational and research needs. Responsibilities include overseeing project stages from design to completion, requiring knowledge in architecture, engineering, and facility construction. Candidates should possess a relevant bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience, including management. This is a full-time position with a salary starting at $120,769.
Job Family Description
Contribute to the University’s long-term direction of the physical and built environment to meet the evolving needs for teaching, research and other institutional priorities. Responsibilities involve multiple project stages, from planning and design, to creation or modification and completion of the physical appearance, as well as additional real estate components.
Common Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture and facility construction and engineering principles. Ability to prepare graphic presentations. Knowledge of the ability to learn CAD software, architectural digital rendering, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office. Ability to establish positive working relationships with customers, coworkers, state, local and federal professional personnel and other public and private sector organizations and individuals. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to problem solve and utilize conscious decision-making.

Performs professional engineering work that requires creativity and substantial creation or modification of new or existing equipment, facilities, or structures.
Common Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to design and construct prototype equipment and able to consistently perform close tolerance machining in difficult to work materials. Must be familiar with, or have the demonstrated ability to learn specialized scientific machining skills such as required for the construction of high pressure, high vacuum, or cryogenic equipment.
