Job Description

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is seeking a Science Management and Policy Intern for a one-year, post-baccalaureate position. The intern will engage in special projects, professional development, and office administration, aimed at preparing for graduate school or careers in various sectors. Applicants must hold a relevant bachelor's degree and be recent graduates. This is a hybrid role requiring regular in-person work in College Park, MD.
Job Description Summary & Additional Information Maryland Sea Grant (MDSG) is excited to invite applications for a one-year, post-baccalaureate Science Management and Policy Internship. This position will offer experience working with an environmentally focused university organization dedicated to research, education, and outreach. As part of the internship, interns will be expected to complete 2-3 special projects, participate in several professional development trainings, and contribute to the administration of our main office. This experience will provide fundamental training for interns to transition to graduate school or the private, nonprofit, or governmental sectors. This internship may be extended for a second year, contingent on performance and available
funding.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must complete a bachelor’s degree in natural, social, or environmental sciences or policy by the end of the spring semester (June 2026).

This program is targeted at recent graduates (within 3 years of obtaining an undergraduate degree). Individuals with a master’s or other higher degrees are not eligible.

This position is hybrid with the expectation of regular, in-person work in College Park, MD.



Salary:
The intern will be a contractual employee of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science-MDSG. This position is full-time for one year with an annualized salary of $42,000 plus access to fringe benefits including health insurance, a retirement subsidy, tuition remission, and generous leave.

Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One (1) year of professional administrative or coordinator experience.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:


Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service.

Knowledge of proper protocol in dealing with confidential information.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.)

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
