As an Environmental Credit Risk Associate in the Commercial and Investment Bank Credit Risk Management Team, you review and analyze environmental reports for real estate lending transactions. You use your quantitative and qualitative skills to assess environmental credit risk across multiple lines of business. You help us evaluate and manage environmental risk through traditional lending activities, ensuring our decisions support the firm's commitment to responsible growth. You work closely with internal and external partners to deliver timely, accurate risk assessments.
Job Responsibilities
Review environmental records and reports for commercial real estate secured loan transactions and prepare review memorandaProcure environmental reports from qualified consultants in accordance with guidelines and proceduresConduct collateral-asset analysis for real estate lending, management, and acquisition or disposition processesServe as a link between Bank personnel and information provided in environmental reportsProvide timely reviews, analyses, and recommendations on environmental riskObtain and review Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and other investigations for loans in defaultCoordinate and manage requests for proposals, project scope definition, job award, and work-product review of environmental consultantsPerform independent research to supplement environmental information for real estate collateralAssist management in developing standardized documentation for inspections, checklists, and service requestsPerform special projects, including analysis of environmental exposures for bank acquisitions and audit responsesCritically review scopes of work for Phase II subsurface investigations and remedial action plans
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Bachelor's degree or equivalent education in environmental sciences or related fieldSeven years of experience administering environmental investigations, risk management, and loss prevention programs with an environmental consultant, lender, or property management firmStrong oral and written communication skills for frequent interaction with internal managers, bankers, customers, and external vendorsAbility to produce and distribute technical written materials, such as reports, memoranda, and information summariesExperience qualifying environmental firms to perform work for a financial institutionNetworking skills with industry peers and ability to make presentationsAbility to perform environmental reviews involving complex reports and property situations
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Professional designations or certifications such as Registered Environmental Assessor or Certified Asbestos ConsultantExperience with contaminated properties undergoing or in need of remediationFamiliarity with developing standardized documentation for environmental inspectionsExperience supporting bank acquisitions and audit responses related to environmental exposuresAbility to critically review and assess scopes of work for environmental investigationsProject management skills in coordinating environmental consultant activitiesAdvanced research skills to supplement environmental information for real estate collateral
