Job Description

Biffa Waste Services is seeking a Recycling Centre Operative in Wakefield, UK, offering a salary of £24,640 per annum with a 4 on/4 off shift pattern. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, ensuring health and safety compliance, managing waste segregation, and maintaining site cleanliness. HWRC Site Operative – South Kirkby


Salary: £24,640 per annum


Shift pattern: 4 on/4 off, averaging 33.63 hours per week


Monday – Saturday 07:30 – 17:30


Sunday 08:00 – 17:00


Late Night 07:45 – 20:15




The main purpose of the role is deliver a high level of customer service to site users as well as ensuring a high level of health and safety of compliance is maintained at all times.


Your key responsibilities:

Providing excellent levels of customer service to members of the public, assisting and advising them on how to use the site effectively and safelyEnsure segregation of different waste streams into appropriate containers to maximise the recovery of materialsEnsure hazardous waste is separated and stored appropriatelyEnsure a high level of housekeeping is maintained and that the site is clean and tidy at all timesKeep all equipment clean and maintained to ensure a safe working environmentControl traffic flows are managed to ensure a safe operationIdentify and report any defects on site following the defect reporting procedureFollow all risk assessments and safe operating procedure that are relevant to the postReport all non-compliance’s and breaches of site rules following reporting systemsEnsures contract runs in compliance with internal and external safety / environmental / permit / planning processes and procedures, as well as any contract requirements.
Must be willing to learn other skills and attend training courses to aid service continuity

Good communication and listening skillsTakes pride in providing high levels of customer serviceDemands high standards of themselves and others and is able to translate this into high quality, high pace output.Ability to build and maintain strong, cohesive relationships at all levels.Good understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance.
