Job Description
Waukesha County is hiring a Natural Land Management Technician for a seasonal position from April to December, requiring 40 hours weekly. Responsibilities include ecological restoration, natural resource inventories, GIS mapping, and leading volunteer projects. The role involves equipment maintenance and record-keeping. Candidates should be current students or recent graduates in relevant fields. A flexible schedule and reliable transportation are necessary. Remote work is not an option.
About the position
Position works 40 work hours weekly from April through December. National Land Management Technician is expected to work some evenings and weekends, other weekday hours are flexible. County Vehicle is provided for use during work hours. Preferred starting date is April 6th, 2026, but we will consider individuals who cannot begin until May due to school commitments. Work with Natural Resource Program Coordinator and Natural Land Management Park Maintenance Worker to conduct ecological restoration and natural resource inventories (flora/fauna) of Park System natural areas including, but not limited to, invasive species control, prescribed burning, tree planting, and native seeding . Assist with GIS mapping using ESRI applications of invasive species, rare native plants, and wildlife within park system natural areas. Work with Natural Land Management Park Maintenance Worker , Volunteer & Community Development Coordinator , Park Foremen and Natural Resource Program Coordinator to develop n atural l and m anagement work projects for volunteer groups . The candidate will help execute these projects in the field either alone or in a group. Serve as a Crew Leader for volunteer projects, having a cheery welcoming disposition while greeting groups on site, giving instructions on project details, monitoring work from start to finish, cleaning up afterwards and providing summary of work accomplished to Park staff. Conduct regular equipment maintenance including, but not limited to, tool sharpening, cleaning, and basic small engine maintenance. Maintain r ecords of n atural l and m anagement project accompl ishments, equipment inventory, volunteer records, herbicide usage, Wau kesha County forms, timesheets, regular email correspondence, project l ists, etc.

Current student or recent graduate in Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, Conservation or related fieldEffectively work on a team or independently on projectsEngage and oversee individual volunteers and/or groups to complete projectsBe able to read and understand the Natural Land Management Plan s f or Waukesha County Park System natural areasReliable transportation to and from workFlexibility and ability to adapt to a schedule that may change weekly , and a willingness to be helpful in various areas of the parksPlease be sure to include resume and cover letter with applicationNice-to-haves
