Overlay Capital is seeking a Director of Fusion & Firm Power in Atlanta, GA, to drive investment judgment and capital allocation in fusion energy and advanced power systems. Position Overview:




We are seeking a Director of Fusion & Firm Power to help drive investment judgment, thematic development, and capital allocation across our fusion and firm power platform.




This role is focused on evaluating and underwriting private investments in fusion energy, advanced energy infrastructure, and related supply chains. The ideal candidate will bring experience from venture capital, growth equity, private equity, or adjacent investing roles, with strong interest in the future of energy systems.




We are continuing the buildout of an investment business focused on nuclear energy, fusion, and grid modernization, grounded in probabilistic decision-making and long-term regime analysis rather than short-term forecasts. This is an investment role for someone capable of underwriting private technology companies and identifying asymmetric opportunities in emerging energy systems. The ideal candidate is technical enough to assess feasibility but primarily experienced in evaluating companies, capital structures, and investment outcomes.




Key Responsibilities:




Source and evaluate private investment opportunities across fusion energy, advanced power systems, and related supply chainsBuild investment theses and present recommendations to the Investment CommitteeConduct financial modeling, market analysis, and technical diligence on potential investmentsIdentify emerging opportunities across fusion, grid infrastructure, and firm power technologiesSupport capital deployment across direct company investments and enabling supply chain platformsTranslate technical and policy developments into clear investment insights for internal use and LP communicationBuild relationships across the fusion ecosystem including investors, founders, operators, and research institutions


What We're Looking For:




3-10 years of experience in private investing (venture capital, growth equity, or similar roles)Strong financial modeling skillsetStrong comfort with probabilistic reasoning, scenario analysis, and decision-making under uncertaintyAbility to integrate technical, policy, and capital considerations into coherent investment judgmentIntellectual curiosity and willingness to engage deeply with emerging technologiesCollaborative mindset and low-ego working style
