Job Description
Linn County Department of Health Services is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist 1 for on-site work in Albany, OR. The role involves retail food protection, safe drinking water, vector control, and community outreach. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years of experience in environmental health. This full-time position requires a valid Oregon driver's license and passing a criminal history check.
Overview ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST 1 Environmental Health Program (Classification 701) SEIU Represented Full Time Position (37.5 hours/week) This position is open until filled. First review of applications will be on Monday, February 9, 2026. Any applications received after February 9 will be reviewed and considered as needed, and this posting may close at any time after that date. Linn County requires on-site work. Remote work is not available. Responsibilities Working primarily in the areas of retail food protection, safe drinking water, and VECTOR control. Responsibilities may also include communicable disease control, community outreach and education, consultation with individuals, groups and organizations, and investigation and enforcement of environmental complaints and regulations. Knowledge, skills, and abilities Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental health; knowledge of the laws and administrative rules governing the environmental health programs of the State; ability to make thorough investigations, compile data, and present clear, concise reports; ability to promote awareness of, and participation toward the correction of public health problems among the general public; ability to plan and organize work effectively; knowledge of the methods and equipment used by the industries and any other phase of the social structure in which the program is concerned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Life or Physical Sciences, Environmental/Public Health or related field, or equivalent experience and training as determined by the Environmental Health Registration Board. Two years’ experience in environmental health work. This position will be a Registered Environmental Health Specialist in the State of Oregon. Additional information This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work and coordination of work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position may provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel. Must be able to pass a criminal history check and possess or obtain a valid Oregon driver's license with an acceptable driving record that meets the County's requirements.
