Placements24 is hiring a Senior Agronomist - Specialty Crops in Los Angeles, CA. The role involves advising on crop production, soil health, pest management, and irrigation for specialty crops. Candidates should have a Master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) and at least 7 years of experience in agronomy. Responsibilities include developing agronomic plans, conducting analyses, monitoring crop growth, and ensuring sustainable practices. This is a full-time, hands-on position.
Our client, a leading agricultural enterprise focused on sustainable farming practices, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Agronomist specializing in specialty crops for their operations in Los Angeles, California, US. This pivotal role involves advising on crop production, soil health, pest management, and irrigation strategies to optimize yield and quality. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of diverse specialty crops, advanced agronomic techniques, and a passion for innovative agricultural solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic plans for a variety of specialty crops, including fruits, vegetables, and niche produce. Conduct soil analysis, tissue testing, and field assessments to identify nutrient deficiencies, diseases, and pest issues. Recommend appropriate fertilization, irrigation, pest control, and weed management strategies. Oversee the implementation of sustainable farming practices, including water conservation and integrated pest management (IPM). Monitor crop growth and development, providing timely advice to farm managers and field staff. Evaluate new crop varieties, technologies, and farming techniques for potential adoption. Maintain detailed records of field activities, crop performance, and resource utilization. Collaborate with research institutions and external experts to stay abreast of the latest advancements in agronomy. Train and mentor junior agronomy staff and farm personnel. Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural regulations and environmental standards. Analyze yield data and production costs to identify areas for improvement and cost savings. Develop and manage budgets for agronomic inputs and research activities. Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and stakeholders. Promote best practices in farm safety and operational efficiency. Qualifications:
Master's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science, or a related agricultural field; Ph.D. preferred. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in agronomy, with a strong focus on specialty crop production. Deep understanding of plant physiology, soil science, entomology, and plant pathology. Proven experience with precision agriculture technologies, including GPS, variable rate application, and remote sensing. Knowledge of sustainable and organic farming practices is highly desirable. Experience with irrigation management systems and water conservation techniques. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities. Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation software. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various farm locations within the region. Certification from recognized agronomic professional bodies is a plus. This role is hands-on and requires a dedicated professional committed to advancing sustainable agriculture and optimizing crop production.
