Job Description
Atlas Iron Pty Ltd is seeking an Environment Advisor for their operations in Western Australia, working on an 8/6 days only roster. The role involves ensuring environmental compliance, monitoring, regulatory reporting, and contractor management at mine sites. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years' experience, an Environmental Science Degree, and familiarity with ISO14001 and environmental legislation. This position requires fieldwork and is not remote.

About The Role
The Environment and Approvals team is currently seeking an Environment Advisor – Operations to join them on an 8/6 days only roster based at Atlas Iron mine sites. Reporting to the Supervisor Environment Operations, you will be responsible to maintain Atlas's environmental compliance at operational sites. The individual will assist with monitoring, regulatory reporting, and contractor management.
Duties
• Ensure all environmental legal obligations and commitments, including regulatory reporting and monitoring are met for Atlas operational sites.
• Assist with coordinating contractors across various Atlas sites.
• Promote environmental awareness, assessment, and management processes across the broader business, fostering a culture of compliance and sustainability.
• Offer technical expertise and stay up to date with industry best practices, standards, and regulatory requirements, contributing valuable insights for effective environmental management.
• Review and maintain environmental management and compliance documentation, including environmental management plans, monitoring plans, environment, legal obligations register, risk register and activity planners.
• Perform audits against the Project’s legal obligations and commitments.
• Conduct inspections of site facilities, processes and contractors to facilitate continuous improvement in environmental management.
• Conduct and report on environmental monitoring, including flora, fauna, dust, water and hydrocarbon management.
• Coordinate and supervise biological and heritage surveys and programs of work as well as training initiatives (e.g., snake handling course, weed control program, annual significant species monitoring etc.).
• Assist in maintaining and implementing the Ground Disturbance Permit (GDP) system for operations.
• Support the development, maintenance and execution of mine closure plans, ensuring activities align with regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.
• Execute and maintain the Environmental Management System for operational sites. This comprises managing environmental management plans, monitoring plans, environmental procedures, legal obligations, commitment registers, risk registers, and activity planners, ensuring comprehensive and effective environmental oversight is in place.
• Assist with identifying, managing and investigating environmental incidents.
Skills And Experience
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar role, having worked within a fly in fly out capacity.
• Completion of an Environmental Science Degree (or equivalent).
• Experience in working with ISO14001 and in environmental management techniques, systems, and tools including monitoring, inspections, and auditing.
• Lead Auditor qualifications– Environmental Management Systems (desirable).
• Good knowledge and application of environmental legislation including; EP Act, EPBC Act as well as Mining Act.
• Construction and Ground Disturbance Experience (desirable).
• Substantive experience in field work and highly comfortable ‘getting out and about.’
• Good stakeholder engagement.
• 4WD certification and experience operating 4WDs.
• Manual Driver’s License.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
