About the position

The City of San Luis Obispo is seeking an Urban Forester to maintain and enhance the city's urban green spaces. This role is part of a Skills Based Pay (SBP) advancement series, focusing on urban forest maintenance, including pruning, planting, and outreach. The Urban Forester will work independently or as part of a team, ensuring the successful completion of various specialized projects while adhering to safety practices and standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities
• Maintain the urban forest through pruning, planting, and regulation.

• Operate and maintain equipment related to urban forest maintenance.

• Provide a safe working environment for themselves and others.

• Maintain records related to services performed and equipment used.

• Perform skilled urban forest maintenance work, including tree evaluations and valuations.

• Respond to emergencies and work in adverse weather conditions.

• Establish and maintain good working relationships with others encountered through work.

Requirements
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.

• One year of tree trimming and tree care or other tree maintenance experience.

• Valid California class C driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

• ISA Tree Worker and Arborist certifications.

Nice-to-haves
• Valid California class B or A driver's license and tanker endorsement.
