Smart4Energy is hiring a Technician for High-Voltage DC Systems in Johannesburg. The role involves commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting large-scale DC power systems and energy storage installations in safety-critical environments. Candidates should have a technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, 2-4 years of hands-on experience, and a strong safety mindset. This is a full-time, hands-on position requiring fieldwork, not remote work.

We're recruiting a Technician - High-Voltage DC Systems for a confidential engineering services business supporting critical power and energy storage installations. This role suits someone who is technically strong, safety-driven, and comfortable working independently in the field.

The Role:

As Technician - High-Voltage DC Systems, you'll be responsible for the commissioning, maintenance, testing, and fault-finding of large-scale DC power systems and battery installations.

You'll work on systems that demand strict adherence to procedures, clear documentation, and absolute focus on safety.



Key Responsibilities:

Commission new high-voltage DC power systems and energy storage installationsPerform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and corrective repairs on DC equipmentCarry out electrical testing including capacity, load, and performance testingTroubleshoot electrical and electro-mechanical faults under time-critical conditionsFollow all approved methods of procedure and site safety requirementsMaintain accurate service records, test reports, and technical documentationCoordinate with engineers, technicians, and project teams to meet delivery timelinesSafely handle, install, and move heavy electrical or battery componentsRespond to call-outs and urgent support requests as required

Background & Experience:

Technical qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Trade2-4 years' hands-on experience working with industrial DC power systems, batteries, or critical electrical infrastructureStrong understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and high-energy electrical systemsAbility to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manualsConfident fault-finding and problem-solving capabilityExperience working under strict safety and procedural controls

Certifications & Practical Requirements:

Electrical trade certification or equivalent technical qualificationSafety training relevant to electrical or industrial environmentsValid driver's licenceWillingness to travel and work outside normal hours when requiredPhysically fit for field work, including lifting and working in varied environments
