The Established Solar Company is hiring an O&M and Commissioning Technician for their Cambridge, MA location. The role involves hands-on commissioning, testing, and start-up of solar and battery energy storage projects. Candidates should have 2-4+ years of relevant experience, strong electrical skills, and the ability to travel to project sites. The position requires adherence to safety standards and collaboration with project teams.
Description
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Commissioning Technician to support the successful start-up, testing, and commissioning of commercial solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. Based out of our Massachusetts headquarters, this role is essential to ensuring our renewable energy projects meet quality, performance, and safety standards before being turned over for operation.
The ideal candidate has a strong electrical or technical background, thrives in the field, and is passionate about delivering high-performing, safe, and reliable solar and energy storage systems.


Responsibilities
● Commissioning & Testing
○Perform electrical and system commissioning for solar PV, battery storage, and associated equipment (inverters, transformers, DAS, switchgear).


○Conduct functional testing, performance verification, and troubleshooting of installed systems.


○Validate system performance against engineering designs, technical specifications, and utility interconnection requirements.


○Complete testing procedures for AC, DC, and energy storage components in accordance with project and industry standards.


○Identify, document, and assist with resolution of commissioning deficiencies or punch list items.


● Project Support & Documentation


○Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to coordinate commissioning schedules and activities.


○Review as-built drawings, one-line diagrams, and equipment manuals to prepare for site testing.


○Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, including test reports, checklists, and system certifications.


○Support utility inspections and assist with final project handoff to operations teams.


● Safety & Quality Assurance


○Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to company safety protocols and OSHA requirements.


○Perform site inspections to verify installation quality and compliance with project specifications.


○Participate in daily safety briefings and enforce safe work practices on job sites.


Requirements
●2–4+ years of electrical, technical, or commissioning experience in solar PV, energy storage, or related industries.
●Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, inverters, battery storage systems, and data acquisition systems (DAS).


● Electrical journeyman license is preferred, but not required.


●Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.


●Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in field environments.


●Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.


●Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and best practices (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, UL).


●OSHA 10 or 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).


●Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.


●Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred; equivalent field experience considered.

●Job Type: Full-time
●Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend or extended hours during project commissioning phases


●Location: Based in Massachusetts with frequent travel to project sites across New England and the Mid-Atlantic


●Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
