POSITION SUMMARY:
The College of Western Idaho’s Department of Biological Sciences invites an engaging and forward-thinking adjunct faculty ready to enrich the lives of a diverse student body by cultivating their academic potential and engaging their commitment to civic responsibility in a dynamic and challenging world. The department is seeking adjunct faculty to teach courses in Environmental Science and General Biology during our Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Adjunct faculty members teach contracted classes in accordance with established policies and guidelines. To reach a broad range of students, CWI encourages exploring alternative teaching styles and methods. Courses will be taught in traditional classroom settings, in computer-mediated classrooms, and over the internet. This position includes classes taught in the evenings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Teaches contracted credit load of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the CWI catalog.
Utilize outcomes assessment measures.
Participate in instructional evaluation processes.
Meets all scheduled classes promptly with any deviations promptly and accurately communicated through the appropriate channels.
Monitors student placement in courses and student progress; maintains accurate records.
Demonstrates a professional level of preparedness during class time
Facilitate small groups of students working together on a common exercise
Demonstrates sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students.
Participate in professional training as necessary or required
Follow all standardized department procedures
Be aware of and function within College policies and procedures
Performs other duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in a related field of study, with a minimum of 12 graduate credits in the discipline.
Experience teaching secondary-level students in the field of study.
Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology.
Ability to demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development.
Proficiency in usage of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications.
Experience using instructional technology to aid in course delivery
Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
MS/MA in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field, from a regionally accredited institution,
Three years’ experience teaching field of study at the post-secondary level, preferred
Successful experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners preferred
Experience using instructional technology
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS:
Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
