Job Description

IU Health is seeking an Environmental Services Team Lead for Bloomington Hospital. This full-time, night shift role involves providing non-supervisory leadership to the EVS team, coordinating tasks, training new members, and ensuring supply readiness. The position requires 3-5 years of relevant experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to uphold safety and cleanliness standards. Candidates must be able to handle physical demands and wear protective equipment.

Responsibilities:

Provides non-supervisory leadership and frontline support to Environmental Services (EVS) team members. Assists with coordinating daily task assignments, training and onboarding new team members, ensuring readiness of supplies and equipment, and supporting performance standards through quality checks and peer coaching. Acts as a role model for quality, safety, and accountability, supporting a positive team culture and the consistent execution of departmental policies and procedures. Assists in coordinating daily work assignments and coverage plans to ensure consistent service delivery. Leads or supports team huddles, shift briefings, and ongoing communication across the EVS team. Participates in inventory management, supply readiness, and organization of equipment or materials. Serves as a peer role model in high-pressure, complex, or sensitive care areas, demonstrating professionalism and attention to detail. Conducts quality checks and performance audits, supports correction of issues in real time and escalates concerns when necessary.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent years of experience is preferred.Requires 3-5 years of relevant experience.Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) credentialing is required for those newly hired or promoted into the position after October 5th, 2025. Incumbents hired after October 5th, 2025, will have 6 months to obtain the credential following their hire/promotional date.Requires working knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and techniques, including handling of emergency spills and hazardous/infectious materials.Requires proven experience supporting the execution of department programs, standards, or service protocols with minimal supervision.Requires the ability to serve as an extension of leadership in upholding service reliability and compliance.Requires demonstrated ability to follow and reinforce hospital policies, safety protocols, and cleanliness standards.Requires strong communication skills with the ability to lead peer interactions and influence team performance.Must be able to wear protective equipment and clothing in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory requirements.Physical requirements include standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting 50 lbs. or more, and wearing required PPE.
