Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician supports and enforces environmental, health, and safety compliance programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting a culture of safety, and managing hazardous materials and waste disposal processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in chemical handling, hazardous waste management, and workplace safety within a manufacturing environment.

Job Duties
• Oversee the proper disposal, storage, and documentation of hazardous waste materials in compliance with EPA, OSHA, and local environmental regulations.
• Coordinate the safe handling, usage, and storage of chemical materials, including the proper disposal and "kicking off" of expired or excess chemicals to prevent contamination and hazards.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide (MEKP) and other similar chemicals and solvents used in boat manufacturing.
• Manage and maintain acetone recycling processes to reduce waste and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Conduct routine inspections and audits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as company policies.
• Assist in the development and implementation of EHS programs and conduct safety training for employees, with a focus on hazardous material handling and emergency response procedures.
• Support the investigation of safety incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure the proper use and maintenance of PPE for employees working with hazardous materials.
• Maintain records and documentation related to waste disposal, chemical inventory, and regulatory compliance, including SDS documentation and reporting requirements.
• Act as a first responder in case of chemical spills, hazardous incidents or work-related injuries ensuring appropriate containment and reporting procedures are followed.

Qualifications:
• Associate's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in boat building or similar industries.
• Knowledge of MEKP, acetone, and other hazardous chemicals, including safe handling and disposal procedures.
• Experience with hazardous waste management and compliance with EPA, OSHA, and local environmental regulations.
• Ability to conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and EHS training programs.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
• Certification in HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) preferred.
• RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) training preferred.
• Forklift experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with EHS compliance software is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements include eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, protective suits, dusts masks and respirators.
• The employee is regularly required to be on their feet; occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Constant use of hands/hand tools for assembly, fine manipulation, inspecting parts, and/or machine operating. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Employees must be able to work a 10-hour shift or more in one workday, including planned and unplanned overtime.
• Exhibits ability to work cautiously but efficiently in potentially hazardous conditions.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to weather elements, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud and is non-climate controlled.
