Job Description
The West Virginia Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Certification Exam Coordinator for Water & Wastewater. This role involves administering certification exams, grading, and managing certification records. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience. The position requires travel within the state and is not remote, requiring in-person work in Kanawha County, WV. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
Nature of Work
This position is the primary lead for administering certification exams for the Certification & Training Program and secondary lead for issuing drinking water operator certifications. Duties include preparing certification exams based on Drinking Water Exam Review Committee and Wastewater Exam Review Committee recommendations, driving to various parts of the state to proctor certification exams, proctor certification exams for WV Rural Water Association, WV Environmental Training Center, Rural Community Assistance Program, grading certification exams, sending certification exam confirmation letters and result letters, entering exam scores into the Cert-Tracker database, entering operator data into Safe Drinking Water Information System database, reviewing exams upon an operators request to show what content areas they need to focus on, attend monthly meetings to review and approve the Continuing Education Hour (CEH) classes. This position is required to complete mandatory training as assigned and assist staff in the preparation for offering regular certification courses.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
OR
Substitution: Additional full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.
AND
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in the acquisition, preservation, protection and enhancement of environmental/natural resources, environmental protection or in an agency-specific area related to environmental impact.
OR
Substitution: Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of fifteen (15) semester hours for every one (1) year of experience.
