Job Description

The Chief Sanitarian position at WV Departments of Health involves working with public stakeholders and agencies to ensure compliance with health and environmental regulations. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, addressing public health complaints, and providing training to new sanitarians. A Bachelor's degree and four years of experience as a sanitarian are required, along with a valid driver's license. This is a full-time position based in Fairmont, WV.
Nature of Work

This Regional Sanitarian position works closely with public stakeholders, governmental agencies, and private sector industries to address public environmental health needs and provide regulatory and technical support. This technical and professional position conducts field inspections of manufactured food facilities, permitted state institutions and correctional facilities, and provides regulatory enforcement to ensure compliance with state and federal public health and environmental laws, codes, ordinances and standards within programs related to the Office of Environmental Health's Public Health Sanitation Division. Regional Sanitarian respond to complaints related to public health violations and emergencies. Provides support and consultation to local health departments. Provides on-the-job training to new sanitarians as assigned. This position will assist with regional and statewide Sanitarian training.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

AND

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a sanitarian.

OR

Substitution: A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in public health, environmental science, chemistry, biology, physical science or agriculture may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Special Requirements: Must be licensed as a registered sanitarian by the West Virginia State Board of Sanitarians or be eligible to be licensed with the Board per the Reciprocity section of the Practice of Public Health Sanitation, W. Va. Code R. §20-4-4 et seq. Must possess a valid driver's license. Availability of an automobile for continuous use may be a requisite for employment.
