Job Description

The City and County of Honolulu is hiring a full-time temporary Environmental Management Specialist to ensure compliance with environmental laws related to the water system. Responsibilities include investigating hazards, preparing environmental permit applications, and analyzing data for mitigating threats to drinking water sources. Candidates should have a degree in environmental science or related fields and two years of relevant experience.

Job Description: Plans, determines and enforces the department's water system compliance with all applicable federal and state environmental laws, rules and regulations. Investigates, determines and prepares plans and strategies to mitigate chemical, biological, and other hazards that pose potential impacts to the department's drinking water sources. Gathers and analyzes the necessary scientific data to identify the actions needed to mitigate the threat. Prepares environmental permit applications and monitors and enforces the department's compliance with the permit provisions and requirements.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major work in environmental science, environmental planning or environmental engineering, and two(2) years of experience in reviewing, interpreting and determining compliance with environmental laws, rules, and regulations; preparing reports, environmental permit applications and ensuring compliance with permit provisions; and investigating, preparing and implementing plans to mitigate potential sources of pollution to groundwater.

Qualified experience must demonstrate working knowledge of: pertinent federal and/or state environmental laws, rules and regulations; basic principles and concepts of environmental science or environmental protection or planning; investigation and inspection methods and techniques. Knowledge of NPDES Permit Program and Clean Water Act is desirable but not required.

A valid driver's license is required.

Salary: $4,858 -$5,690 per month (salary commensurate with experience)
