The Town of Bedford is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Community Planning and Sustainability Manager. The Community Planning and Sustainability Manager provides professional leadership and support for community-focused planning, sustainability, climate and energy initiatives. The position advances Town-wide goals related to land use planning, community engagement, climate action, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas reduction, while continuing to support municipal planning and permitting functions.
This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and work independently. This role involves technical, professional, and administrative work supporting the Planning Board and other committees for which the Planning Department provides staff support or technical assistance. A strong emphasis on community outreach, sustainability program development & grant writing, and coordination across residential and commercial sectors.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, environmental sustainability or climate adaptation, public administration, or related field, and three (3) to five (5) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. The position requires the candidate to have knowledge of municipal planning practices, sustainability initiatives and energy or climate programs, plus familiarity with state and municipal regulations related to land use, energy, and sustainability. The candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with residents, businesses, boards and partner organizations, and the ability to analyze data and interpret plans and reports. A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, GIS and related software is required.
This is a 37.5 hrs./wk. exempt position. Town Hall is open 35 hrs./wk., Monday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., closed on Fridays. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $82,000 – $90,000, depending on qualifications.
