Job DescriptionWe are actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Water Management Technician to join the African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) team in Concordia, Northern Cape. This pivotal role operates on a Hybrid model, blending essential on-site presence for operational monitoring and maintenance with the flexibility of remote work for reporting and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity and sustainability of our water resources across our regional operations. You will be responsible for the meticulous monitoring, sampling, analysis, and maintenance of our extensive water infrastructure, ensuring strict adherence to both internal environmental standards and external regulatory frameworks, including the National Water Act. This position demands a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving capabilities, and a commitment to environmental excellence. You will collaborate closely with our environmental engineers, operational teams, and community stakeholders to implement and optimize best practices in water resource management, contributing directly to ARM's sustainability goals and operational continuity. Key ResponsibilitiesExecute routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of water treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and associated infrastructure.Conduct comprehensive water quality sampling and on-site testing in accordance with established protocols and South African national standards.Monitor and record water levels, flow rates, consumption patterns, and discharge volumes across various operational points, reporting any deviations.Analyze collected data, prepare detailed technical reports on water quality parameters, usage trends, and regulatory compliance for internal and external submission.Assist in the identification and implementation of water conservation initiatives, leakage detection, and efficiency improvement projects.Respond promptly to water system malfunctions or environmental incidents, assisting in immediate corrective actions and reporting.Ensure strict compliance with all water use licenses, environmental permits, and ARM's internal environmental management system policies.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all water management activities, including maintenance logs, calibration records, and incident reports.Support the development and review of site-specific water management plans and risk assessments.Provide technical guidance and awareness training to operational personnel on sound water management practices and environmental responsibilities.Required SkillsNational Diploma or equivalent qualification in Water Treatment, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in water resource management, treatment, or environmental monitoring, preferably within the mining, heavy industrial, or municipal sectors.Demonstrated proficiency in operating and calibrating water quality testing equipment and interpreting analytical results.In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation pertaining to water (e.g., National Water Act, Water Use License requirements).Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective reporting and collaboration.Valid South African driver's license and the ability to travel to various site locations as required.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline.Professional certification in Water Treatment Plant Operations or Environmental Management.Experience with SCADA systems or other remote sensing and telemetry platforms for water monitoring.Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems implementation and auditing.Possession of relevant safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry).Perks & BenefitsCompetitive remuneration package aligned with industry standards and experience.Comprehensive medical aid and provident fund contributions.Generous annual leave allowance to support work-life balance.Continuous professional development and training opportunities to enhance your skills.Access to a supportive and collaborative work environment within a leading mining company.Opportunity to contribute to significant environmental sustainability initiatives.Flexibility offered by a hybrid work model, balancing on-site engagement with remote capabilities.How to ApplyWe invite all qualified and interested applicants to submit their applications by clicking on the link below.
