Job Description

Sodexo is hiring a Waste Operative in Tutbury, Staffordshire, responsible for managing various waste streams, ensuring proper disposal, promoting recycling, and operating site vehicles safely. The role requires practical experience in waste management, adherence to health and safety standards, and strong communication skills. As a Waste Operative with Sodexo, you'll enhance the services of our vibrant corporate site, offering a helping hand to ensure flawless facilities operations and keep things running smoothly. What you'll do:

Collect and manage multiple waste streams, including manufacturing, domestic, recyclable, and clinical waste, across all departments and site locations. Ensure correct segregation and disposal of waste in line with site policies and environmental standards. Promote and encourage recycling practices within the workplace. Operate site vehicles and equipment, including ride-on sweepers and forklift trucks, safely and efficiently. Carry out daily checks on forklifts and waste handling equipment, reporting any faults promptly. Maintain cleanliness across waste areas, including bins, workshops, plant rooms, machinery, and yard spaces. Perform minor repairs to bins and equipment using hand tools when required. Ensure waste containers are secure, safe, and not overfilled prior to collection. Respond immediately to incidents such as leaks or hazards, following safe systems of work and reporting procedures. Handle and operate waste management and power-cleaning equipment responsibly. Support site operations by moving materials and completing scheduled and ad hoc tasks. Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and compliance with all health & safety, COSHH, and environmental regulations. Attend training and continuously develop skills to meet operational requirements.

Practical experience or understanding of waste management operations and safe handling procedures. Strong awareness of health & safety practices, including COSHH and safe systems of work. A valid forklift truck licence (if applicable) and experience operating site machinery safely. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and management. A proactive, reliable approach with strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards. Ability to identify risks, hazards, and incorrect waste disposal, taking appropriate action. Flexibility to respond to changing tasks and operational needs. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Physically capable of handling manual tasks in a busy working environment. A positive attitude towards teamwork, productivity, and continuous improvement.
