South Pole is seeking a Technical Lead for Engineered Carbon Solutions in London. The role involves providing technical advice on carbon removal projects, coordinating with teams, and assessing project viability. Job summary:
South Pole is looking for a Technical Lead to strengthen its team in Europe and to play a key role in international consultancy assignments, proposals, commercial activities, and multistakeholder initiatives.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
• As a global sustainability solutions provider, South Pole works with clients in public and private spaces to build solutions for a sustainable society and economy.
• The Policy and Strategy team works on public and private consultancy assignments for clients.
• It provides policy and technology insights and market intelligence to various teams within the business lines.
• Your goal as Technical Lead, Engineered Carbon Solutions will be to help deliver and refine South Pole’s offering by providing technical advice on engineered carbon removal and reduction projects.
• You will coordinate across relevant teams within South Pole and related institutions to provide best-in-class support for carbon removal and technical advisory mandates, and technical opinions on internal project assessments for due diligence purposes.
• You will act as a core member of the Engineered Carbon Solutions team within South Pole, providing technical insight to assess the viability of engineered carbon reduction and carbon removal projects, and supporting project management and assessment of prospective projects for South Pole or NextGen operations.
• Specifically, you will be able to speak to the technical feasibility of each project and identify potential risks that may undermine reduction/removal performance, assess the level rigour and viability of the proposed mitigation impact quantification methodology and the extent to which it is aligned with existing carbon standard reduction and removal methodologies.
• You will engage with South Pole Carbon Standard and Methodology experts to discuss how to further develop such a quantification approach to bring it in line with carbon crediting standard requirements.
Requirements:
The selected candidate will be expected to have a broad range of engineering knowledge, particularly in relation to technologies and solutions used to capture and permanently store CO2 from different sources, such as but not limited to: biochar, bioenergy with capture and storage, direct air capture, enhanced weathering and permanent CO2 mineralisation in durable products.
