Waste Connections is hiring a full-time Sustainability Outreach Coordinator in Hermiston, OR, with a salary of $65,000-$70,000/year. Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000/year
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) with occasional evenings and weekends required for events and outreach activities

Position Summary

The Outreach Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting community education and engagement around waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives. This role leads and supports outreach programs across a variety of audiences and settings, including businesses, schools, residential communities, construction and demolition stakeholders, and public events.



This position operates with a high level of independence and spends significant time in the field delivering programs, presentations, and hands-on education.



Key Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and execute waste reduction and recycling education programs for:

Businesses and food waste generators

Construction and demolition stakeholders

Single-family and multi-family residential communities

Schools (elementary through college level)

Community events and public outreach initiatives

Respond to customer and community inquiries regarding recycling guidelines and best practices

Deliver engaging presentations to small and large audiences, both in classroom and public settings

Lead and coordinate recycling site tours

Support larger outreach initiatives while managing day-to-day education and engagement tasks

Track and manage multiple projects simultaneously, from planning through completion

Perform additional outreach-related duties as assigned



Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability

Bi-lingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred

Experience planning and executing events or outreach programs

Strong presentation and public speaking skills for audiences of varying sizes and age groups

Ability to work independently, using sound judgment and discretion

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills



Technical Skills:

Intermediate proficiency with:

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or similar graphics tools



Work Style Attributes:

Highly organized and detail-oriented

Flexible and adaptable to changing needs and priorities

Self-motivated with the ability to complete projects with minimal supervision

Comfortable working under pressure and managing long-term projects along side daily responsibilities
