About the Opportunity

Waste Connections is seeking a motivated and environmentally driven intern to join our Sustainability Campus at Champ Landfill in Maryland Heights, Missouri. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about modern waste management, landfill operations, recycling processes, and sustainability initiatives in a real-world setting. The intern will gain valuable exposure to environmental stewardship practices while supporting key operational and community-focused projects.

Role Overview

The Sustainability Campus Intern will assist with day-to-day activities that support environmental compliance, sustainability programs, and educational outreach efforts. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field who is eager to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support sustainability initiatives across the landfill and campus, including recycling, diversion, and environmental programsAssist with data collection, tracking, and reporting related to landfill operations and sustainability metricsParticipate in site inspections, environmental monitoring, and compliance-related activitiesHelp coordinate tours and educational events for community members, schools, and visitorsCollaborate with operations and environmental teams on ongoing improvement projectsConduct research on industry best practices and support implementation of new sustainability effortsMaintain organized documentation and assist with administrative tasks as neededQualifications

Strong interest in environmental stewardship and waste managementExcellent communication skills and a willingness to engage with team members and visitorsDetail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilitiesProficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Ability to work both independently and as part of a teamWhat You'll Gain
