Job Description

Clemson University is seeking a Soil Greenhouse Gas Field Technician for a USDA-funded project. The role involves monitoring soil carbon stocks and greenhouse gas fluxes in South Carolina's row cropping systems. Duties include transporting equipment, data collection, and field sampling. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required, with preferred experience in flux measurement. The position is based in Florence, SC, and involves frequent travel within the state.
JOB SUMMARY

In support of a USDA‑funded project, the Ye Lab (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) Soil Greenhouse Gas Field Technician on the multi‑disciplinary team will assist in the monitoring of soil carbon stocks and greenhouse gas fluxes in various row cropping systems of South Carolina. The Field Technician will lead the measurement of soil greenhouse gas fluxes using a Picarro system and automated chambers. The position is based out of the Pee Dee Research and Education Center in Florence SC, but involves frequent travel within South Carolina and interaction with growers.

JOB DUTIES
• 50% – Essential:
Transport of the Picarro system to farms at weekly intervals, assembly, data capture, and initial data processing. Coordinate, lead, and communicate tasks/results across groups; collect and analyze data; and meet the deadlines as required by the project.

Assist with field soil sampling led by postdocs and graduate students.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Education – Bachelor’s Degree in animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
• Work experience that is directly related to the area of employment may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year‑for‑year basis.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
• Education – Master’s Degree in ecology, soil science, agriculture sciences, or related disciplines.
• Licenses – Driver’s License, Class D, normal < 26,000.
• Work Experience – 2+ years relevant experience with flux measurement and related equipment, and data loggers.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Anticipated Salary Range: $52,100 – $53,000. Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson’s compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Normal Operations. Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on‑site during emergency situations.
