Course description:
The course focuses on social and political dimensions of human-forest interactions and theoretical approaches to study these interactions. It explores the social practices, institutions and regimes of power and knowledge in shaping human-forest relations. Taking a political ecology approach, the course examines how power, knowledge, culture, and nature intersect and shape each other; and explore issues of equity and justice in different forest governance contexts.
The course explores forest governance challenges in different parts of the world, including in Canada. The course will be run as a seminar, with student-led activities, research, and presentations, and include an overnight field camp component.

Sessional Lecturer III: $ 10,953.96


Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $ 11,228.90

Minimum qualifications:
Preferably a Ph.D. degree or extensive experience in forest conservation with a thorough knowledge of the forestry industry and forest governance; teaching experience an asset.
Description of duties:
Prepare and deliver lectures, organize guest speakers, maintain course notes and readings, set and mark course assignments, which may include mid-term, essay and final examination or other assignments, with the support of a TA; compile, record and submit final marks. Be available to students through regular office hours. This course also includes a four-to-six-day overnight field camp component during the Winter Reading Week.
Ensure CFAB competency elements 1.1.4, 1.1.5, 2.1.3, 3.1.1 to 3.1.5, 3.2.1,3.2.2,3.2.5,3.2.7,7.1.2,7.1.4,8A3.1 are covered and evaluated within course.
