Senior Environmental Planner – Ottawa

Parsons' Ottawa team is seeking a full-time Senior Environmental Planner to join our dynamic team with a demonstrated ability to succeed in a collaborative and flexible work environment. We provide a multi-disciplinary approach to projects across Ontario and Eastern Canada, and provide services to a wide range of public and private sector clients. As the successful candidate you will be involved in a variety of assignments in offering a senior level of environmental planning service. Work may include leading or contributing to planning studies, environmental assessments, and developing environmental mitigation and monitoring measures. Typical project examples include MTO highways, municipal arterial roads, rapid transit facilities, water and wastewater facilities, and integrated infrastructure master plans. Work may also include independent planning and design projects with an environmental focus, such as strategic environmental assessments, projects on federal land, green infrastructure strategies, environmental permitting, and the development of environmental policies or programs.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in advancing the growth of our broader Infrastructure practice in Ontario by taking a leadership role in supporting and executing the environmental business plan, specifically in the National CapitalManage or contribute to complex environmental assessments and other environmental planning studies;Manage, coach, and motivate staff to provide high-quality services and innovative solutions to complex planning challenges involving multiple stakeholders;Lead proposal preparation including assistance in developing project methodology, work programs, schedules, and budgets;Prepare technical reports and also carry out quality reviews of reports prepared by others;Mentor junior staff in the advancement of their environmental planning careers;Assist in the attraction of new staff to Parsons' strong environmental planning and natural sciences team;Maintain an awareness of trends, developments and advancements in the environmental planning field to retain technical competency, and to provide state-of-the-art services and advice to our clients;Preparation and delivery of illustrative presentations that communicate the excellence of our clients' projectsPreparation and execution of stakeholder engagement strategies and analyses of public consultation results;Participating in professional conferences and training to showcase Parsons' excellence in environmental planning and our desire to remain state of the art in our consultancy; andContinuously seeking and recommending ways for Parsons to remain at the forefront of environmental planning consultancies in Canada.Candidate Profile

University degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography or in other professional discipline pertinent environmental planning combined with relevant management experience. A relevant post graduate degree is highly desirable.Senior Environmental Planner with project management and business development experience.Minimum of 10 years of related work experience including infrastructure consulting and design experienceDemonstrated ability and experience in mentoring and growing the capabilities of our environmental planners and natural science practitioners.Effective interpersonal skills and highly developed verbal and writing communications skills.Extensive knowledge and experience working with the MTO Class EA, Ontario Transit and Rail Project Assessment Process (TRPAP), Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) processes, the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and Impact Assessment Act of Canada.Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal policies, legislation and regulations related to planning, and evolving industry trends is highly desirable.Has experience or interest in managing or coordinating complicated projects that improve the quality of our communities.Demonstrates excellent English written and oral communications skills. Ability to communicate (oral and written) in French is considered an asset.Membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners is considered an asset.Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience. A full and competitive benefits package is offered with this position.

Salary Range: $40.87 - $64.90
