Job Description

Community Action Works is seeking a Lead Community Organizer and Climate Justice Director to empower communities in combating environmental issues, particularly through the Mass Power Forward coalition. Responsibilities include strategy coordination, leadership development, campaign strategy, event planning, and fundraising. The role requires 3-5 years of relevant experience and a commitment to racial and environmental justice. This position is based in Boston or Northampton, MA, and currently operates remotely.

As the Lead Community Organizer and Climate Justice Director, you will engage directly with local groups and co-coordinate the statewide coalition Mass Power Forward, which connects frontline communities with the environmental movement to promote clean energy and justice.

In this role, you will:

Coordinate Strategy: Collaborate with community leaders to develop a regional vision that empowers individuals to advocate for a healthier and just future, particularly through the Mass Power Forward coalition. Leadership Development: Lead virtual workshops to enhance community organizing skills and provide one-on-one coaching for grassroots leaders in impacted areas. Campaign Strategy: Identify key local environmental issues, build relationships with diverse leaders, and develop creative solutions to drive effective campaigns. Event Planning: Assist in organizing conferences and grassroots events to strengthen community networks and advocacy efforts. Fundraising: Participate in fundraising efforts by cultivating donor relationships, assisting with grant applications, and engaging in grassroots fundraising activities. Organizational Development: Contribute to the strategic planning process, focusing on racial and class equity in our initiatives. Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should have:

3-5 years of relevant experience in community organizing, campaign coordination, or environmental advocacy. A valid driver's license and availability to drive for work. Strong judgment and the ability to manage large-scale projects. Experience working in diverse, multi-generational settings. Strategic thinking and effective facilitation skills. A passionate commitment to community organizing, racial, economic, and environmental justice. This position is based out of Boston or Northampton, MA, and currently operates remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
