About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental Manager to join the Bramford-Twinstead Network Optimisation (BTNO) project within our Power Transmission and Distribution business. The BTNO project is a flagship power transmission upgrade for National Grid and will enable new wind and nuclear power to connect to the grid.
This is the perfect opportunity for an established Environmental Sustainability Manager to develop their career within a team of Environmental Sustainability professionals. The BTNO Environmental Sustainability Team has a wide range of backgrounds and is made up of team players in environmental compliance, sustainability, and ecology. We take a hands-on approach, support each other and the project teams, look after the local environment, and deliver a sustainable legacy.
What you'll be doing
Ensure compliance with the related sustainability requirements of the UK BusinessManagement System (BMS), in addition to project DCO requirements and conditions.
Review and update DCO Management Plans and consents, ensuring our working practices and methods comply with the conditions of these permissions.Provide the contract with technical advice, guidance and support on environmental sustainability.Provide a review of sustainability content in construction methodologies, risk registers, programmes and other project-specific deliverables.Carry out site inspections and auditsReport on good practices and investigate and report on environmental incidents to the project teams and the client with the support of your colleagues.Take part in lessons learned exercises and consider areas for improvementWork with the Senior ES Manager to promote Zero Harm objectives and Building New Futures strategies and drive continuous improvement of performance.Support the learning and development operational teams through sustainability training sessions, leadership presentations, supplier and customer education forums.Inspire individuals across the group to become more sustainable and to promotesustainability within their own functions and businesses.

Exceptional communication and relationship management skills are required, coupled with a strong ability to influence through others and support/coach the business stream leadership where necessary.Thorough working knowledge of current UK environmental legislation and consenting regimes.Strong working knowledge of the construction sector, preferably UtilitiesPrevious experience of working with clients and regulators on complianceComprehensive knowledge and experience of Sustainability and how it practically impacts on the 'built environment'.The individual will be comfortable supporting experts in sustainability (carbon, water, waste, materials & responsible sourcing, circular economy, biodiversity, social value, community engagement, BREEAM, CEEQUAL) and potentially has expertise in one or more areas of sustainability.Programme experience with a structured approach to organising and documenting progress.Strong background in assessing environmental hazards and understanding of themechanisms of how to mitigate
Valid Driving LicenceThe following qualities/experience are desirable:
Appropriate IEMA level or equivalent professional accreditationGIS knowledge and working experience (ArcGIS, QGIS)Experience of delivering against CEEQUAL/BREEAMRelevant environmental or sustainability degreeCommercial awareness of contracting and experience of managing subcontractorsWhy work for us
