PROtect, LLC is seeking motivated individuals to start a career as an Environmental Field Technician (Apprentice) supporting air quality, emissions monitoring, and environmental compliance in the oil and gas industry. This entry-level, paid training role is based onsite in Bellingham, WA.
As an EMM Apprentice, you will receive hands-on, on-the-job training while working alongside experienced LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) Technicians. You’ll help monitor and reduce VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) and HAP (Hazardous Air Pollutant) emissions in accordance with EPA Method 21 and other environmental regulations using portable monitoring equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in environmental work, field technician roles, air quality, industrial safety, or hands-on technical careers. No prior LDAR experience is required.

Position Summary
The Environmental Field Technician (Apprentice) reports to an LDAR Manager and works closely with site leadership and plant personnel to ensure environmental compliance, safety, and customer satisfaction.
You will be responsible for monitoring equipment components within an industrial facility, identifying emissions leaks, calibrating monitoring equipment, collecting data, and reporting results accurately and on time.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform emissions monitoring using portable analyzers and electronic data collectors
Conduct LDAR inspections following EPA Method 21
Monitor assigned routes within required timeframes
Identify and tag leaks and process issues
Calibrate monitoring equipment and make minor mechanical adjustments
Upload daily monitoring data and complete emissions reports
Communicate daily findings and potential issues with site personnel
Coordinate with plant operations and management
Report all safety incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions
Follow all safety policies and procedures
Perform additional duties as assigne
Education & Basic Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older
High school diploma or GED required
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
Entry-level or 1–3 months experience in:
Environmental monitoring
Field technician or industrial work
Chemical plants, refineries, or industrial facilities
Familiarity with:
Portable monitoring devices or PDAs
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word)
Data collection and reporting systems
No prior LDAR experience required – training provided
Skills & Abilities
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Safety-focused mindset with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage assigned routes
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, industrial environment
Ability to analyze data and identify trends or issues
Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and occasional travel
Ability to wear respiratory protection for extended periods
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Industrial environment with exposure to:
Fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions
Ability to:
Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
Climb scaffolding, stairs (up to 30 flights), and ladders
Work at heights up to 300 feet
Perform physically demanding work for extended periods
Noise levels may exceed 85 dB (hearing protection required)
Must meet weight and safety harness requirements
Employment contingent upon:
