Job Description

The State of Michigan is hiring a Deputy Director for the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) in Lansing, MI. The role involves strategic leadership, policy direction, and external relations, overseeing various organizational units, collaborating with stakeholders, and representing the department at high-level meetings. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant experience. A Juris Doctor is preferred.
About the position

The Deputy Director serves as a key strategic leader within the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), focusing on policy direction and external relations. This role involves guiding the department's long-term goals, overseeing public-facing teams, and ensuring alignment between various offices and regulatory divisions. The Deputy Director will represent the department at high-level meetings and collaborate with stakeholders to implement environmental policies effectively.

Responsibilities
• Lead and manage key organizational units, including the Office of the Clean Water Public Advocate, Office of Climate and Energy, Office of the Environmental Justice Public Advocate, Office of Legislative Affairs, Office of Public Information, and Office of the Great Lakes.

• Provide input and guidance on organizational vision, policy development, and execution of long-term objectives as a member of the department's leadership team.

• Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and efficient implementation of environmental policies and programs.

• Oversee the integration of climate resilience and environmental justice strategies across departmental programs.

• Advise and contribute to the development of legislative priorities and lead efforts to establish and advocate for legislative initiatives that reflect the department's strategic objectives.

• Represent the department at high-level meetings, promoting EGLE's vision and objectives.

Requirements
• Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

• At least two years of experience working in the policy, legal, environmental, or governmental affairs fields.

Nice-to-haves
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited school of law and a membership in good standing in the State Bar of Michigan.
