Position Summary



The Climate and Nature Impact Director is a leadership role responsible for maintaining and advancing Textile Exchanges position as a trusted authority. This role will oversee the shaping of our thought leadership agenda - developing bold, credible narratives and frameworks on topics such as regenerative agriculture, circularity, nature and biodiversity, and system transformation. This role requires a visionary strategic leader with demonstrated experience crafting compelling business cases for climate and nature action and influencing systems-level change in the textile, apparel, or broader sustainability sectors. The Director will help shape the narrative that fuels Textile Exchanges impacttoday and into the future. This position reports to the Chief Impact Officer.





Key Responsibilities



Thought Leadership:

Lead the development and implementation of Textile Exchanges strategic approach to thought leadership and corresponding deliverables.
Prioritize and execute upon a select set of thought leadership topics, ensuring that deliverables and narratives drive meaningful and timely value for the industry.Collaborate with team, department, and cross-functionally to produce timely, relevant reports and research, frameworks, and narratives that articulate the organizations position, provide industry guidance on key topics, and meaningfully contribute to organizational goals.Work in partnership with the Standards System department to ensure that the elements of Textile Exchanges Materials Matter Standard System are appropriately reflective of leading industry thinking.Work in partnership with the Engagement and Partnerships Department to ensure effective continuous feedback loops, leveraging industry insights to shape thought leadership positions and ensuring that positions are shared consistently back out to the industry and to key stakeholder groups.Partner with the Development Lead to ensure thought leadership priorities and outputs are compelling to funders, effectively integrated into donor engagement, and positioned to strengthen Textile Exchanges fundraising strategy.Translate complex sustainability topics into actionable insights, compelling narratives, and authoritative guidance for the industry, investors, and funders.Represent Textile Exchange as a respected voice and convener at global events, funder convenings, and industry dialogues.Contribute to influential publications, shaping the direction of the industry and supporting alignment around credible impact frameworks.Ensure consistency, integrity, and credibility in how Textile Exchange communicates its role, insights, and vision.

Organizational Leadership & Collaboration:

Build and lead a high-performing team that reflects the organizations values and strategic priorities, including mentoring senior team members and ensuring they are empowered to shape and deliver upon their areas of responsibility.Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that supports innovation, accountability, and professional growth.Contribute to organizational vision and decision-making.Support the CIO in Board engagement as needed.Promote alignment and integration with other departments.



Minimum Qualifications

10+ years of experience in fashion/apparel/textile industry sustainability. A recognized sustainability leader.Deep understanding of key industry sustainability topics.Excellent communication and storytelling skills in English, with experience turning complex topics into accessible narratives.Experience in external representation and thought leadership, including public speaking
and media engagement.Strategic thinker with demonstrated leadership and cross-functional collaboration.Passionate about Textile Exchanges mission and deeply committed to advancing climate, nature, and livelihoods outcomes.Committed to equity, inclusion, and shared leadership, with a proven ability to work across diverse communities and global contexts.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a global, remote organization is a plus.
