Biomass Power Plant Utility Technician

Step into a day supporting safe, reliable biomass powerFrom the power block to the fuel yard, you’ll be the steady hand that keeps our biomass facility clean, safe, and running smoothly. Partnering closely with the Power Block Lead, Fuel Yard Lead, and the control room, you’ll help maintain equipment and work areas, remove buildup, and uphold the highest housekeeping standards so the plant can operate at peak performance.

What your day looks likeYou arrive ready to work—PPE on, shift plan in hand. You move between the power block and fuel yard, clearing ash, dust, wood debris, and other materials from floors, conveyors, and equipment. With shovels, brooms, hand tools, and industrial vacuum systems, you prevent buildup, keep fuel flowing, and support reliability. You coordinate with the control room and shift leads on progress, hazards you spot, and equipment conditions. During outages and scheduled maintenance, you jump in for wash-downs and cleanup, always following lockout/tagout and confined-space protocols. And when priorities change, you take on additional tasks assigned by the Power Block Lead, Fuel Yard Lead, or plant management.

Your core contributionsClean and remove ash, dust, and debris across equipment, conveyors, floors, and work areas using shovels, brooms, hand tools, vacuum systems, and other cleaning gearAssist with cleaning and upkeep of fuel-handling systems, conveyors, and storage areas to prevent buildup and ensure safe, consistent fuel flowPerform routine housekeeping throughout the fuel yard and around plant structuresSupport operations and maintenance during outages, maintenance windows, and full wash-downsCommunicate effectively with the control room and shift leads regarding job status, hazards, and equipment conditionsFollow all safety procedures, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and confined space requirementsTake on other duties as assigned by the Power Block Lead, Fuel Yard Lead, or plant managementWhat you bringHigh school diploma or GED1+ years of experience in an industrial, power plant, or fuel yard environmentSkill in safely operating hand tools and basic cleaning equipmentComfort working outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periodsSafety is our foundationYour success matters to us as much as your safety. Compensation and benefitsWe’re transparent about pay and committed to equity in our people practices. The base pay range for this role is $24-26.50/hr, dependent upon experience, qualifications, and skills.
