About the Role
Farming Systems Kenya seeks a Community Development Officer based in Nairobi to drive sustainable community engagement and capacity building in equine husbandry and management practices. This position plays a crucial role in strengthening community-based structures and implementing livelihood interventions across target equine-owning communities.



Key Responsibilities

Provide trainings to groups and community-based organizations (CBOs) on group dynamics and animal welfare
Assess and identify community capacity gaps, needs, and root causes related to equine husbandry, management practices, and socio-economic factors
Develop and implement sustainable interventions to address identified gaps and needs
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, implementing adjustments based on findings
Explore and implement innovative, culturally appropriate capacity building methods, tools, and techniques suited to diverse community groupings and contexts
Strengthen community-based structures among target equine-owning communities to ensure sustainable project interventions
Support community groups in planning, implementing, and sustainably managing livelihood programmes
Prepare and deliver training content aligned with learning roadmaps and session plans; conduct monitoring visits to track adoption of tools
Mentor community animal welfare ambassadors
Identify gaps in and explore value addition opportunities for resources and materials related to community engagement
Organize field days and outreach programs in collaboration with stakeholders
Support community-based data collection and monitoring activities
Participate in meetings and initiatives with animal welfare and livelihood sector partners
Manage organizational funds, accounting, and financial reporting in accordance with planned activities
Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
