Purpose:


Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) engages motivated Indigenous young adults, ages 21-30, to complete challenging and impactful conservation and service projects throughout the western United States. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation, historic preservation, and local environmental service projects.


Position Summary:


The vision of the Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps Farm Corps is to catalyze a movement to restore our local food systems through agriculture, seed sovereignty, and traditional knowledge. The Farm Corps began in 2011 as a summer youth program in Acoma Pueblo and has expanded to serve Zuni and Isleta Pueblo. Participants receive a living stipend while engaging in cultivation, seed-saving, irrigation, and traditional food practices.


Description of Duties:


Project Management & Implementation:



Complete farming and seed propagation goals
Maintain quality and quantity of project work
Monitor and maintain tool and equipment inventory

Safety & Risk Management:



Promote crew safety on and off site
Communicate and manage field incidents
Transport crew and equipment safely

Administration:



Report project accomplishments
Compile notes and documentation
Notify staff of farm needs and manage purchases

Essential Skills and Functions:


Critical thinking, situational awareness, time-management, adaptability. Physically able to work long days, lift up to 50 pounds, drive ALCC vehicles, and work in adverse conditions.


Qualifications:


US citizen/national/permanent resident, at least 17 years old, high school diploma or equivalent, willingness to complete National Service Criminal History Check.
