Job Description

FSD Africa is seeking a Specialist in Sustainable Finance to enhance green finance in Africa's capital markets. The role involves advancing sustainable finance transactions, mobilizing capital, and implementing projects. Candidates should have at least 9 years of experience in sustainable finance, strong financial market knowledge, and excellent communication skills. A Master's degree is preferred. This is a full-time position based in Kenya.
Job Summary
We are recruiting a Specialist, Sustainable Finance to support the delivery of high-impact interventions across green and sustainable finance in Africa’s capital markets. The role focuses on advancing sustainable finance transactions, mobilising capital, and contributing to the development of deeper and more resilient financial markets. Working across Capital Markets and Catalytic Transactions, the Specialist will translate strategy into delivery, leading project implementation, supporting programme design, and contributing to FSD Africa’s role in driving market transformation.


We are looking for a candidate who combines strong financial markets experience with an understanding of climate and sustainable finance, including familiarity with instruments such as thematic bonds and broader market-shaping approaches.. Reports directly to - Principal, Sustainable Finance, Capital Markets


Contract Type - Full time employment (Open ended) Qualifications and Education


Master’s degree and 9 years of experience or bachelor’s degree and 11 years of experience; with a minimum of 9 years’ experience in the areas of technical specialism, at middle management in a financial markets’ environment.


Postgraduate qualification in relevant subject preferred.


Excellent written and spoken English.


Essential
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills


At least 9 years’ experience in the area of green and sustainable finance market building and investment transactions across private and public sectors.


Demonstrated experience providing transaction support for sustainable thematic bonds according to international standards, developing and closing blended finance transactions with public and private participants, delivering technical workshops and drafting technical guidelines on these topics.


Demonstrated experience leading or supporting private sector thematic bond transactions, including the ability to connect transaction execution with broader market development, stakeholder convening and capital mobilisation objectives.


Ability to manage a project portfolio with a middle-level budget.


Successful track record of delivery of results in the area of technical specialism and provision of technical assistance.


Successful track record of independently managing complex projects and stakeholder relationships at middle to senior level management range.


Experience in conducting and analysing research.


Understanding of the development finance world and strategic development impact (preferred). Desirable


Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment


Good communication skills and track record of managing relationships and influencing key stakeholders at specialist level


Knowledge of donor policies and procedures


Previous experience of working in FCDO-funded projects


Languages: English (required) French (desired) Important
