Essential Job Summary:: The Sorters main responsibility is to sort and pick through refuse at our MRF / Optical Sorting Facility (Materials Recovery Facility). They play an integral role in the elimination of wrongly recycled products into the environment’s waste and recycling stream. They will learn the appropriate products to identify throughout the optical sorting machinery.

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: Must be able to stand for four hours at a time (based on shift and break rotations)Must be able to work in hot and cold weather (work area is not heated or cooled—it reflects the outdoor temperature at the time)Sort through recyclables on a moving conveyor beltSweeping is required at cleanup timeLight shovelingOccasional lifting (less than 50lbs)Familiarity with the use of hand tools like pliers for the cleaning of baled product*Sorters will spend their shift standing on their feet alongside the conveyer belts

They will be exposed to odors, hot or cold weather, as well as physically touching items in the recycling stream

Requirements and Qualifications:: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 poundsExperience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.Able to work in an outdoor environment on a constant basis while being exposed to variable weather conditions, temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, smells, and loud noises.
