POSITION:Solar Technician II (full-time)
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO:Team Leader/O&M Manager
The AES Operations team is looking for a seasoned Solar Technician with solid troubleshooting experience. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, and demonstrate the ability to lead, train, and teach other field personnel.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Travel to distributed and utility-scale solar and battery storage facilities in local region to perform preventative & corrective maintenancePerform other technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a power facilityCoordinate and manage contractors engaged to support maintenance activitiesProvide limited support for commissioning activitiesLead/support warranty claims processes with vendors as needed.Ensure work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.Perform work independently and in team environments
Desired Skills, Expertise and Competencies:
Proven experience with a variety of electrical equipment and knowledge of basic IT and remote communications equipmentExperience with Battery Energy Storage systems (BESS), a plus.Ability to prioritize and plan preventative & corrective maintenance on solar and battery storage equipmentUnderstanding of general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards as well as help the company improve upon the standards in placeAbility to excel in a collaborative, cross-functional and geographically diverse organizationMaturity, professionalism, and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writingSelf-starter, developed interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethicDetail oriented with an ability to adapt to new challenges and summarize information to support key decision makersDemonstrated ability to research/interpret technical documents and dataResults oriented fixer of things, with a do what I do leadership philosophyAbility to operate personal computer with technical proficiency of standard business softwareAbility to read, write, and understand EnglishKnowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulationsDemonstrates enthusiasm for solving problems and adding value to the companyMaintains a current level of professional knowledgeFocus on personal growth and team developmentAbility to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationshipsSupports the development of a productive work culture and resilient teamDesire to learn new things and teach others
Education / Experience:
Technical degree or equivalent Journeyman qualificationsThree or more years of experience as a PV O&M solar technicianFive (5) or more years' experience in a power plantDemonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals (single craft journeyman skills) such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and electrical theory applicationBasic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities
Working Conditions:
Working outside in most conditionsNormal plant and/or office environment, including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high/low humidity areasRequires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipmentRequires use of personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicalsOccasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilitiesPerforms other duties as assignedWillingness to work overtime and respond to emergencies, as needed
