About the Role:
SME has a new full-time position for an experienced Environmental Technician/Industrial Hygienist at our office in Cumberland, Maine. This role involves a wide range of environmental consulting and industrial hygiene services for commercial, industrial, governmental, and residential clients. The Environmental Technician/Industrial Hygienist will serve as a key technical contributor and project manager, working closely with clients, contractors, and internal staff. This position also includes mentoring and supporting less experienced team members. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential to success in this role.
Environmental Technician/Industrial Hygienist Responsibilities:
Conduct indoor air quality testing and environmental samplingPerform hazardous building materials inspections and samplingPrepare abatement design specifications and technical reportsProvide oversight of hazardous material abatement activitiesManage projects including scheduling, budgeting, and client coordinationSupport site planning, permitting, bid review, and construction servicesPrepare investigation reports and regulatory documentationMentor and provide technical guidance to junior staffMaintain strong organizational practices to manage environmental samples and observationsServe as a collaborative team member, delivering practical and cost-effective solutions for clients
Environmental Technician/Industrial Hygienist Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience working in an industrial setting B.S. in a physical science (Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or related field) preferredUnderstanding of environmental regulations and the ability to interpret regulatory requirementsExperience with Microsoft Word and Excel, technical report writing, and data interpretationStrong oral and written communication skillsProven ability to work directly with clients, respond to requests, and provide consistent supportAbility to perform field work in varying weather and environmental conditions, including:Climbing ladders and working in elevated areasAccessing confined spacesWearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including full-body coverings and tight-fitting respiratorsWorking nights or weekends when neededAbility to pass a physical as required for work involving potentially hazardous materialsMEDEP: MP, DC, AHERA Inspector, NIOSH 582 Air Analyst, Air Monitor preferredACAC: CIE, CMC, or CMI preferredBoard of Certified Safety Professionals: CSP preferred
