Jefferson RISE Charter School in Harvey, LA, is hiring a Science Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will implement rigorous, standards-aligned instruction, utilize student data to inform teaching, and foster a student-centered classroom culture. Jefferson RISE Charter School, founded by seven community members in 2014, will serve just under 800 students in grades 6-12 for the 2025-2026 school year. Located in Harvey, Louisiana, the school caters to a diverse student body from the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, consisting of 59% Black/African American, 24% White, 15% Hispanic, and 2% Asian students, with 87% qualifying as economically disadvantaged.

Position Overview


At Jefferson RISE Charter School, we are seeking an experienced, results-driven teacher who believes that every student can learn and is committed to delivering high-quality instruction every day. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Tier 1 curriculum implementation and leverages student data and work analysis to inform instruction, adjust practice, and drive academic achievement.


Our teachers cultivate classrooms where student thinking is visible, learning is rigorous, and expectations are high. The right candidate creates a strong, structured, and supportive learning environment where students feel ownership of their learning and are consistently engaged. They maintain excellent classroom management while building a culture of respect, responsibility, and safety


We are looking for educators who are reflective, collaborative, and passionate about student success—teachers who not only teach content but also model curiosity, critical thinking, and a growth mindset.


1. Deliver Rigorous, Standards-Aligned Tier 1 Instruction



Implement the school’s adopted curriculum with fidelity, ensuring lessons are rigorous, engaging, and accessible to all learners
Adapt instruction based on student needs while maintaining high expectations
Use checks for understanding and questioning strategies that promote student thinking and discourse

2. Use Data to Drive Instruction



Regularly collect, analyze, and respond to student data, including formative assessments and student work
Identify trends and adjust instruction based on analysis of student misunderstandings
Participate in data meetings and implement action steps aligned to school-wide academic goals

3. Cultivate a Student-Owned, Thinking-Centered Classroom



Foster an environment where student thinking is visible through discussions, written work, and student-led activities
Empower students to take ownership of their learning through goal-setting, reflection, and academic habits
Promote metacognitive skills and encourage intellectual risk-taking

4. Establish a Safe, Predictable, and Empowering Classroom Culture



Build a classroom community grounded in Emergent Tree’s principles: being safe, respectful, and responsible
Address behavior proactively by teaching and reinforcing behavioral expectations through clear routines and instructional strategies
Maintain strong classroom management with consistency, relationship-building, and a focus on student skill development
Model and cultivate a culture where students feel known, valued, and empowered to meet high expectations

5. Engage in Professional Learning and Collaboration



Actively participate in professional development, instructional coaching, and collaborative planning
Seek and implement feedback to improve instructional practice
Contribute to a positive, mission-aligned school culture






Administrative



Analyze student achievement data alongside team members to inform instructional planning and support
Maintain a consistent and meaningful data tracking system that guides instructional decisions
Keep an accurate, up-to-date gradebook that reflects students’ academic progress and understanding
Complete all administrative tasks and documentation in a timely and organized manner






School and Community Culture



Model and teach the mission, vision, and values of Jefferson RISE in daily interactions and classroom practices
Design and implement routines and supports that teach positive behaviors aligned to the principles of being safe, respectful, and responsible
Reinforce student leadership and character by addressing behavior through skill-building and clear expectations
Build a strong classroom community by partnering with families to support students’ academic success and personal growth






CANDIDATE PROFILE


Education and Certification:



Bachelor’s degree required
Degree in content area (preferred)
Content area certification (preferred)

Experience and Skills:



Technological proficiency in Google Drive (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides)
Excellent communication skills
High level of personal organization and planning
Proven track record of student achievement and/or growth

SALARY & BENEFITS


The salary range for this position is $40,000-$55,000 per year. RISE employees are paid twice a month on the 15th and last day of each month.


Jefferson RISE pays the following employee-only benefit costs for all full-time employees: coverage 85% of medical premiums and 100% of dental, vision, short and long term disability premiums. The Employee covers the remaining costs, including 15% employee medical and all spouse/dependent costs. RISE provides a 401(k) retirement plan to all W-2 employees, including a match of up to 100% of contributions on the first 3% deferred, then 50% of contributions from 3% to 5%. There is no vesting period. Jefferson RISE reserves the right to offer different or additional benefits to the Employee at any time.
