The State of Louisiana is hiring an Environmental Scientist (levels 1, 2, or 3) for the Department of Environmental Quality in West Monroe, LA. Position: Environmental Scientist 1/2/3 The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Compliance has a vacancy. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare. In this role, you will apply technical expertise and regulatory knowledge to perform inspections involving radioactive material, x-ray equipment, reciprocity, and investigations. A bachelor's degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field; OR A master's degree or doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field. Job Duties: * Engage in training to become a fully qualified Radiation inspector through on-the-job training from mentors, reading the provided material, learning the regulations, and attending training offered by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), LDEQ, and others. * Perform compliance inspections on all registrants and licensees, including manufacturers, distributors, and users of radioactive material and radiation-producing equipment, within the assigned region; and respond to complaints and environmental incidents in the six Regional Offices in the state. This position requires driving a state vehicle. * Prepare thorough written reports related to all field activity and complete post-inspection duties. * Assist with special projects including the development of SOP's, manuals, inspection procedures, and other program materials. * Perform other assigned duties such as time keeping, participate in nuclear power plant drills, and other contributions to the Radiation Section Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years), or promotion of permanent classified employee. If the position is filled as a job appointment, it could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Domicile: Ouachita Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Environmental Scientist 1, 2, 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered.
