The State of Louisiana is hiring an Environmental Scientist 4 in Shreveport, LA, within the Department of Environmental Quality. This role involves providing technical oversight and regulatory guidance for environmental compliance programs. Candidates need a relevant bachelor's degree and two years of experience, or a master's degree with one year of experience. The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Compliance has a vacancy. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare. The LDEQ Northwest Regional Office is seeking to applicants for the promotional position of Environmental Scientist 4 to provide technical oversight, training, and regulatory guidance to ensure consistent implementation of environmental compliance programs within the Surveillance Division A bachelor's degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field PLUS two years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR A master's degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus one year of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR A doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field. Job Duties: Conduct in-depth inspections of facilities to evaluate compliance with state and federal environmental regulations related to water quality, air emissions, solid waste, and hazardous waste. Mentor and assist lower-level Environmental Scientists with inspections, investigations, and complex multimedia compliance evaluations. Investigate citizen complaints and environmental incidents, documenting findings and coordinating response activities as needed. Prepare and technically review inspection reports and compliance documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established procedures. Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring activities, including operation and maintenance of monitoring equipment, to document impacts to air, water, and soil. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered.
