Job Description
Brigham Young University is hiring a Research Staff - Plant & Wildlife Sciences - UTTR Project Manager. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or related fields, with experience in plant and animal ecology. The position involves extensive fieldwork in Utah, supervising technicians, and collaborating with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Position Start Date: June 1, 2026
Required Degree: A Bachelor of Science is required, preferably majoring in the field of wildlife biology, range management, or ecology. Master's preferred. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience: Applicants should have an education and background in plant and animal ecology and management, wildlife management, range science, soil science, or a combination of these fields. They should be familiar with working with plant and animal populations, collecting field-based data, and implementing monitoring practices. Preference will be given to those who have skills in trapping and handling wildlife, identifying bird, mammal, and plant species, and quantifying plant populations. Preference will also be given to those who have experience managing crews and technicians.
Duties/Expectations: Work closely with US Fish and Wildlife Service employees to conduct surveys and monitoring efforts on the Utah Test and Training Range. Extensive field work is required from April through August. During this period the person will be responsible for supervising a team of technicians while making sure that field work is completed. Persons selected will prepare reports in accordance with US Fish and Wildlife expectations and ensure that all tasks appointed to BYU by the USFWS are completed each year.
