DescriptionThis is a unique international opportunity for a professional seeking to build their career in the energy sector to join our Asia-Pacific region as an Energy Modeller. Aurora’s modelling team create and maintain the energy models that underpin our subscription analytics, advisory, and software offerings. Based in Gurugram and focused on the Asia-Pacific power markets, successful candidates will work in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment that values collaboration, learning and mutual support. They will contribute to our energy modelling efforts in Asia-Pacific by combining energy market knowledge with state-of-the-art modelling techniques. They will be given the opportunity to lead model development projects, mentor junior colleagues, and shape the direction of the modelling team. The position suits an experienced Modeller/Quantitative analyst from a top-tier strategic or economic consultancy, energy company, financial services company, or knowledge-focused firm or institution. We’re looking for candidates who bring both technical expertise and a collaborative leadership style, with a proven ability to support and inspire teams toward dependable, high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the development of features that capture complex market dynamics within Aurora’s models
Work closely with our research and advisory teams to derive insights from model results
Contributing to the continuous improvement of how the modelling team operates, with a focus on how we can leverage AI in our workflow
Managing a team of junior colleagues and supporting their development
As an Energy Modeller you will be an expert in the configuration of Aurora’s modelling software, with some of the following specialist responsibilities:
Applying expert knowledge of power markets to design new modelling approaches
Working closely with Aurora’s Advisory teams to deliver key market insights
Delivering Aurora’s models as robust, high-quality software for internal and external clients
What we are looking forRequired attributes:
Relevant degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Economics
Min 2 years of experience developing models or software, ideally in a commercial environment.
Knowledge of one programming language, e.g. Python, Matlab, C++, R, Java
Problem-solving skills and analytical ability
Desirable attributes:
Experience in the field of mathematical optimization (Linear Programming, Dynamic programming, MIP etc.) in a commercial environment
Experience of developing power market models
Management experience
Deep interest in power markets
Knowledge of and interest in applying modern AI technology in your work
