Job Description
UCL is seeking a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow in Climate Policy & Health, based at the Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering. The role involves collaborating on the PAICE project with the Greater London Authority to enhance health considerations in climate policy. Ideal candidates should have a PhD or equivalent experience, a background in public health, and skills in evidence synthesis. The position is funded from April 2025 to October 2026.

Set within The Bartlett Faculty, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is comprised of four world-class institutes, providing expert knowledge, collaborative research, and teaching across UCL Energy Institute, UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage, and UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. The postholder will be based in the Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering (IEDE). At IEDE we pursue a deeper understanding of the interactions between the built environment and health, human wellbeing, productivity, energy use and climate change. We deliver interdisciplinary built environment research to improve health, wellbeing and sustainability.
About the role
The postholder will work intensively with other colleagues of the ‘Policy and Implementation for Climate & Health Equity (PAICE)’ project and the Greater London Authority (GLA), the devolved regional governance body of Greater London. The successful candidate will undertake a policy exchange placement in the GLA Public Health Unit in order to help reframe policy across thematic areas, bringing together the adaptation and mitigation agendas through a health equity lens. The main role of the successful applicant will be to strengthen the consideration of health in evidence-informed climate policy design within the GLA. This post is available from 01 April 2025 and is funded till 31 October 2026 in the first instance; further funding to support the post may become available. About you
The ideal candidate is a highly analytical person with a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area and a keen interest in multidisciplinary research. Within the remit of policy design, the person should have a background in public health with a strong focus on equity, health and social value. They should have skills in evidence synthesis, inequalities and ideally some experience or interest in implementation science. Previous policy experience is desirable, an interest in the intersection between climate, health and adaptation is essential.
