The Society for Conservation Biology is seeking an R&D Lab Technician for its Pilot Plant Lab in Lemont, IL. The role involves operating lab equipment, preparing chemical solutions, and supporting experiments focused on harvesting rare earth elements from industrial waste. Candidates should have relevant lab experience and a degree in a related field. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, for a project length of 4 months or more.
R&D Lab Technician Needed for Pilot Plant Lab Our client has a lab that is located in Argonne National Laboratory is looking for a hands-on Lab Technician in Lemont, IL. Our client is working a build a clean, secure supply of rare earth elements by harvesting the materials from industrial waste streams. Ideal candidates are excited to work at a startup company and helping build things from the ground up. Work location: Lemont, IL Project Length = 4 Months(+). Project length can be extended. Work days: Monday - Friday Hours of work: 9am - 5pm Candidates must have an unexpired REAL-ID or USA passport to enter the work site. Responsibilities of the position: • Setting up, operating, and maintaining lab equipment (reactors, filtration systems, etc.). • Preparing chemical solutions, reagents, and samples. • Performing chemical separations and extractions under supervision. • Recording detailed experimental procedures, results, and observations. • Supporting lab organization, safety protocols, and inventory tracking. • Assisting in scaling processes from bench to pilot level. • Working closely with scientists to iterate on experiments and processes. Required Skills • Recent Pipette Experience • Are comfortable handling chemicals and following standard lab safety practices. • Are detail-oriented and take pride in keeping things clean, organized, and well-documented. • Can troubleshoot equipment issues and are not afraid to get your hands dirty. Desired Background & Skills: • Experience with wet chemistry, solvent extraction, or inorganic separations. • Familiarity with analytical techniques like ICP-OES, titration, or spectroscopy. • Experience in an R&D or pilot lab environment. • Interest in sustainability, green chemistry, or circular economy systems. Requirements of the position: • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field - or equivalent lab experience. • Have 1-3 years of hands-on lab or industrial experience (internships count!).
