Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Physical Oceanography & Ocean Biogeochemistry

The Gulf of Maine Research Institute seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Physical Oceanography & Ocean Biogeochemistry in Portland, ME. The role involves designing and executing research on coastal dynamics and biogeochemical processes, analyzing datasets with Python/R, investigating physical-biogeochemical coupling, contributing to ocean modeling, publishing results, and mentoring trainees. This is a full-time position with a salary of $70K–75K per year.
Designs and executes quantitative research on coastal and shelf ocean dynamics and biogeochemical processes, analyzing large observational datasets and model outputs with Python/R and high-performance computing. Investigates physical–biogeochemical coupling (notably carbon and oxygen variability), contributes to regional ocean modeling and climate projection analyses, publishes results and prepares reports for scientific and applied audiences, supports grant development, and mentors trainees.
