POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Marine Wildlife Response Specialist will support the Pacific Islands Regional Office by receiving, assessing, and responding to reports of stranded marine mammals and sea turtles across the Island of Hawaii, including live and deceased animals. The specialist will dispatch response teams, provide on-scene assistance, ensure public safety, collect and manage biological and incident data, coordinate post-mortem necropsy logistics, and support law enforcement and outreach efforts related to the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act. The role includes data processing into NOAA's regional databases, inventory and equipment management, interagency coordination, and participation in training and progress reporting efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate monthly meetings and trainings with network members, agencies, and other stakeholders and submit monthly progress reportsConduct monthly equipment and inventory checks and submit inventory listsReview response reports from marine wildlife hotline or other sources and conduct initial assessmentsConduct photo documentation and data collection on the scene of strandingProcess response data regarding marine animals behaviors, locations, and human interaction incidentsCoordinate logistics and assist with post mortem procedures and sample and data collection

Salary: USD 36000 - 60000 per year
