Start Up Africa is seeking a General Manager for Waste Management in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The role involves overseeing operational, financial, and environmental aspects of waste management, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting sustainable practices. Responsibilities include strategic leadership, budget management, and team development. Candidates should have a relevant degree and 3-5 years of experience in waste management or related fields. This is a full-time, in-person position.
Job Summary The General Manager – Waste Management is responsible for overseeing all operational, financial, environmental, and administrative aspects of the organization's waste management activities. The role ensures efficient collection, transportation, treatment, recycling, and disposal of waste while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and organizational objectives.


The General Manager provides strategic leadership, drives operational excellence, manages budgets, develops business opportunities, and promotes sustainable waste management practices.


Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic and operational leadership across all waste management activities.
Oversee waste collection, transportation, recycling, and disposal operations.
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Manage budgets, financial performance, and cost-control initiatives.
Lead, mentor, and develop management and operational teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in waste management, environmental services, logistics, utilities, or a related industry.
Strong knowledge of waste management operations, environmental regulations, and health and safety standards.
Proven leadership, financial management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and operational best practices
